Detlef Klein is Managing Director of the Palmerston North based company Manawatu Museum Services Ltd. The company has two permanent staff and in association with a network of fellow conservators, experienced museum professionals and technicians, the company is able to offer a wide range of services for the museum, art and heritage sector and private clients throughout New Zealand. This includes the conservation of all types of objects and collections, advice on collection storage development, museum building planning, exhibition support services, collections surveys and audits, preparation of Conservation Plans and Training.
Clients have included the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, Auckland Museum, Auckland Art Gallery, Rotorua Museum, Hawkes Bay Museum, Puke Ariki, Govett Brewster Art Gallery, Whanganui Regional Museum, Te Manawa, The Feilding Coach House Museum, Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington Museum of City and Sea, National Library, NZ Police Museum, The New Dowse, Aratoi, Christchurch Art Gallery, Dunedin Settler Museum, several City or District Councils, Ratana Community Board, The Elms Foundation, the Ministry of Culture & Heritage as well as selected private collectors.
Detlef Klein was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Museum of Audio Visual Arts & Sciences of NZ Trust from 2005 to 2013 and a Regular Guest Lecturer in Preventive Conservation for the Museum Studies Programme at Massey University from 1994 to 2011
