Detlef Klein is Managing Director of the Palmerston North based company Manawatu Museum Services Ltd. The company has two permanent staff and in association with a network of fellow conservators, experienced museum professionals and technicians, the company is able to offer a wide range of services for the museum, art and heritage sector and private clients throughout New Zealand. This includes the conservation of all types of objects and collections, advice on collection storage development, museum building planning, exhibition support services, collections surveys and audits, preparation of Conservation Plans and Training.

Manawatu Museum Services Ltd offers clients the experience of Detlef Klein’s longstanding involvement in the heritage and museum sector as a unique resource. Almost eleven years working within a museum environment at Te Manawa from 1994 to 2005, two and a half years working as Manager of Kemp House and Stone in Kerikeri for the NZ Historic Places Trust in 1992-1994 and altogether more than 11 years running his own business in New Zealand, Detlef has gained since 1980 more than three decades of practical experience in all areas of heritage and museum collections management and conservation.

Other Services to the Museum Sector
Detlef Klein was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Museum of Audio Visual Arts & Sciences of NZ Trust from 2005 to 2013 and a Regular Guest Lecturer in Preventive Conservation for the Museum Studies Programme at Massey University from 1994 to 2011
